Through the ever-shifting landscape that is life, clay holds steady, and constantly challenges the boundaries of my being. There is no other experience in my life that allows me to extend myself so thoroughly as pottery; to create art so intimately with my materials, to see myself mirrored in the forms that I collaborate with clay to make, to see my visions come to life and fall apart, both in single moments and years of work.
I was born and raised in Ithaca, NY, and have been making pottery and working with clay for almost a decade. After graduating from Hampshire College I returned to and am currently based out of the Ithaca/Trumansburg area.
I work primarily with mid-fire stoneware and porcelain, and my pieces are almost exclusively thrown, with dalliances in carvings and sculpture here and there. I am greatly inspired by traditional Japanese and Korean pottery and am primarily interested in the adaptation and manipulation of traditional, functional-style pieces into more abstract, interpretative art pieces.
